"Jennifer Walencek (at the old Polish Deli)"

"At the Polish deli"

They don't quite know what to make of her

at the old Polish deli?

At age thirteen, it was black, gloss nail polish?

and punk rock records by the Clash

At fourteen, steel toed boots and her first

boyfriend, the Jewish kid from Wilmette.

Mostly, she ignored them when they shook

their heads, smiled and wondered

"Ain't that Bill Walencek's youngest girl?"

"What happened? What happened?"

At fifteen, she stopped going to church

then she tried a few different ones.

Finally, sixteen, her first year at Brandeis

she came home speaking six different languages

She can't buy beer yet, but now she doesn't

mind running errands for her Papa anymore.

a evolving city

Life, letting go, renewal care, attention. These are what we can build. Situationism. Meaning. Truth. Democracy for the least favored?
